A Legacy Built to Last
At KGC Building Group Inc., building is in our blood — and has been for over 250 years. We are proud to be one of Canada’s longest-standing family-run construction companies, tracing our roots all the way back to 1751, when two brothers in Germany began building churches and bridges under the name Kleinsteuber Brothers.
From Europe to Canada, from timber framing to modular homes, our family legacy continues to evolve — but our foundation has always remained the same: quality, craftsmanship, and community.
Our Story Through the Years
1751–1836: European Origins
Our journey began in Gotha, Germany, where Erdmann and Reinhard Kleinsteuber founded Kleinsteuber Brothers, specializing in churches and bridges. Their passion was passed down through generations, eventually bringing the family to Canada in the mid-1800s.
1836–1950s: Settling in Ontario
The family settled in Berlin, Ontario (now Kitchener), shifting focus to custom home construction. After enduring personal loss and global changes, Robert Kleinsteuber emerged as a defining figure in our history — studying at George Brown College and graduating top of his class in the trades.
1954–1980: A New Era Begins
Robert and his brother formed a local home-building company that laid the groundwork for today’s business. When the brothers went separate ways, Robert launched Arkay Construction, training his sons in the trade from a young age.
1980–2008: The Growth Years
At just 16, Brian Kleinsteuber left school to join the business full-time. In 1980, he officially bought the company from his father for one dollar, renaming it Kleinsteuber General Contracting. Under his leadership, the company scaled from $200K to $2.5 million in annual revenue in just one year.
Brian added multiple divisions — excavation, concrete, rentals, and full-service residential builds — and carried out his father’s dream of offering complete turnkey homes.
2008–Today: KGC Building Group Inc.
In 2008, Brian co-founded KGC Building Group Inc. with Jacqueline Patrick, taking the company in new directions. The focus expanded to include:
Barns (chicken and horse)
Residential additions & legal basement suites
Institutional renovations
Concrete and excavation projects
Today, we’re a mid-sized general contractor with big goals and an even bigger heart for our community.
Our Mission
To build strong, lasting structures that serve real people — and to pass on generations of knowledge to the next wave of tradespeople.
We are currently:
Constructing 1,700 affordable homes by 2025
Launching Klein Modular Homes Inc. to provide quality, $350K homes across Canada
Planning to open a trade school to teach the old-school way
Our Vision
We envision a future where:

Communities are supported through meaningful building projects
Our Values

🌱 Community – Our work supports families, towns, and the next generation of tradespeople.
Looking Ahead
Brothers Brian and Dan Kleinsteuber are the last of the family’s builders — but their story isn’t over yet. With over 250 years of combined construction experience, their next goal is to pass the torch by opening a trade school for young Canadians, preserving the timeless skills that built this country.
Let’s make wonders
spring which I enjoy with my whole heart.
